“A wise man will hear and increase learning And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel.” - Proverbs 1:5
“ …. I have learned by experiences that the Lord has blessed me.” - Genesis 30:27
It was definitely a Near Death Experience (NDE) … Conscious at times to tell the essential details like phone numbers and unconscious most of the time, not really experience the pain of the injury … This had been the condition, when Swami Sthevananda was admitted at MIOT at Vijaya Hospital.
The scan films show, that those images were taken after 1.18 AM of 17th May 1995, which confirms that, Swamiji must have been brought to MIOT around 1.00 AM. He scantly recollect responding to Mr M R Krishnamurthy’s question at Balaji Nursing Home and remember his colleague Mr Joe J Kenneth replying him: “The windows are closed.”, whenSwamiji asked him to close the window as he felt shivering, while he was shifted in an ambulance from Balaji Nursing Home to MIOT. He vaguely remembers to have moved his body, when the scanning staff asked him to move his body, little up. Swamiji was presuming that he was having a bad dream till the time one of the nurses at MIOT woke him up and handed over a toothpaste and brush in his hand in the morning.
Looking around, Swamiji found several people in the bed, confirming that he is in a hospital. But the new toothpaste and new brush assured him that he was in the safe hands. …. Not like an orphan in a government hospital.
“What had happened to me?”, this was the question Swamiji was asking myself and the medical / para-medical professionals, whenever he was conscious.
The News came as a shock, when Dr Sampathkumar, Facio Maxilla surgeon explained to him: “Your skull is broken in four places. You are under observation, since the cerebral edema is gross. If you survive, you have to be in the hospital for six months. It seems that you have lost your vision in the left eye, for the pupil is not reacting to light.”
Swamiji was a very ambitious man then. The thoughts that came to his mind most of the time were: “Is my life going to end, unaccomplished? Or Will I survive with one eye?”
Since the awakening of Swamiji’s clairvoyance, through spiritual orientation right from 1992, he usually get messages from God in the form of Intuition and Inner-voice. One more of the similar experience! This time, God brought the thoughts about the following two people to his mind:
God gave Swamiji stories of these people to encourage him and he started telling himself: “Ravi, you are going to survive. Even if you lose the vision in one eye, you shall accomplish whatever you want to”.
The pupil of the left eye started responding to light in few days. For restoring Swamiji’s vision in the left eye, He is thankful to the Sadguru Jesus Christ who made several blind to see, during His life time in Earth.
Readers will be happy to know that to the astonishment of the doctors at MIOT, Swamiji came out of the hospital in just one month. Within six weeks after his discharge from the hospital, with open wounds on his forehead, he lead two teams of youth (Graduate Engineer Trainees of GEC Alsthom) for a hiking expedition (Outward Bound Training) to the Pandiar Peak in the Nilgiris.

On looking at the scar on his forehead, if anyone enquires about his accident, Swamiji usually give a standard reply: “I have not lost anything in the accident. I gained Faith in God, which doubled my confidence level”. Hence, from 1966 onwards he is celebrating 16th May as his day of re-birth, because on this day, God helped him to win over Satan, who tried to slain him before a blood-thirsty deity at Tambaram Sanatorium. Is it because,Swamiji follow the Sanatanguru Jesus Christ, who raised several dead alive?
It is said that Swamiji was the only survivor in the accident-prone-site, till 1995. After his accident, so far, no such accidents have happened. We come to know that due to some family dispute among those who were patronizing that particular altar, that goddess too lost her prominence.
We are reminded that with the Ultimate Sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the animal sacrifices in several altars of His time came to an end. Could Jesus Christ’s ultimate-sacrifice be the reason that we do not have any animal scarifies, these days in most of the Shaivaite and Vishnuite Shines, though Vedas and Vedic religion supports animal sacrifice? Have you noticed, as a reminder of the animal sacrifices that was in vogue prior to the Ultimate-sacrifice, one could see the Nandhi (stone bull) in-front of the Shiva statue?
Let not this nurturing of faith, stop with Swamiji alone. Let this life story of Swamiji be a lesson for you, in the same manner, as he had affirmed his FAITH from Nawab Mansur Ali Khan of Pataudi and Poet John Milton.
“As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.” - Proverbs 27:17
